Medical Mission in Bago, Negros Occidental

Bago Medical and Surgical Mission

The Bago Medical and Surgical Mission last March 1, 2008 was one of the most memorable events the order has sponsored last year. We performed a total of approximately 30 minor surgeries and had a total of approximately 200 patients for the medical check up. We also learned that Mayor Saratan of Silay, Bago City is a fellow Asclepian. He then invited us to have lunch meeting with him sometime.

“The trip to Estancia was a much needed break from the mental assault of that day. And from that medical mission I have experienced how much people put trust on us, even though we are not yet licensed doctors”-Kristine Suaverde

June 27, 2008

Bros and sis,

The city of Iloilo was recently battered by tropical storm Frank/Fengsheng, and many people were greatly affected. The Order of Asclepius, in coordination with the Medicine Student Council and the Archdiocese of Jaro, is asking for donations like clothing and canned foods to be distributed to the affected citizens of Iloilo city.

OA Activities to match the Summer Heat

June 16, 2007

By: GMA Darwin Totesora

Aside from the usual summer activities that most students do in their free time like going to well known tourist spot destination, some of our brothers and sisters in the Order of Asclepius traded that opportunity to do other things related to the Order.

One of these activities was a One Day Mass Circumcision Outreach Program held last first week of May in Estancia, Iloilo. The activity was sponsored by the Local Health Unit of the area with a total of 98 young male participants.

Some resident members were busy processing papers for the transferring of the OA bank account from the West Visayas Cooperative Bank to a bigger and more widely available bank (e.g. BPI {Bank of the Philippine Islands} or Land bank). This move was consulted and approved by our Adviser for External Affairs, Dr. Joefil Acosta. This decision was made in the hope that other members from anywhere else in the world may find it more convenient to reach the Order’s financial account in cases of donations and other fund-related matters.

Furthermore, there were really a handful of our brothers and sisters that worked almost all summer-round for finalization of the most awaited 30th Anniversary Souvenir Program. With great news that it is currently in the printing press, there efforts will be much appreciated by all of us.

Lastly, to all Asclepians abroad, rest assured that from time to time you will be updated with what’s going on with the Order. For this year, we officers have assigned Giselle Cabilitasan as the head of External Public Affairs together with the Master Chronicler, Paul Glynn Cornelio.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam!
