30th Anniversary Celebration
April 30, 2006
The West Visayas State university College of Medicine, since its establishment in the year 1975, has been well known for its high standard in medical teaching. It attracted aspiring physicians all over the country. On its second year, a group of individuals constructed an organization of brotherhood and sisterhood that would redefine the conventional passive life of a medical student. These 54 men and women then became the founding members of the Order of Asclepius. Asclepius being an ancient Greek god of healing and a famous physician was the perfect representation of the groups’ intentions. Year after year the Order grants lifetime memberships to those who would uphold its seven guiding tenants: Fidelity, Respect, Equality, Service, Secrecy, Dignity and Humility. The Order has been successful in helping its members bring out their best by instillin to them the value of hard work, endurance and most of all appreciation of the saying that sometimes we can’t make it on our own.
After countless activities, numerous recognitions as the Most Outstanding Non-Academic Organization in the University and 510 members in the medical and non-medical profesion, the Order of Asclepius will celebrate its 30th Anniversary on december 3, 2006. Pass the Word and catch up with fellow Asclepians as we celebrate our contributions for the Order as well as what the Order imparted in us. What does it mean to be 30?
April 30, 2006
This year, the Order of Asclepius will celebrate its 30h Anniversary. Amidst all the frenzy in preparation for the get together, we reflect on what it really means to be in the Organization founded a few decades ago.
Firstly, 30 means aging. It denotes that all members have aged through time and whether this aging is graceful or otherwise is still open for debate. What is quite important is the fact that time has sharpened each member’s talents, skills and abilities to be what it is now. Some members have even come a long way, as they are actualy regarded as the epitome of a sucessful physician. Indeed, in aging there is wisdom and lots more!
Secondly, being 30 means rebuilding and building. It means 3 years mutiplied to 10 have caused enough gaps for communication and bonds to again be ekindled. In essence it involves a bit of retrospection and a big efort in reaching out. Asclepians have been noted to have close affiliations with fellow members. 30 years alone is never enough to break that admirable characteristic!
Thirdly, 30 means success. In teh past 3 decades each member has dutifuly fulfilled is call to be an extension of the Master Healer, Jesus Christ, through countless ways. It symbolizes 30 years of success for each and everyone who has been part of teh Organization through the myriads of medical missions nd free service grants each member has participaed. And this success story is progresing almost to infinity!
fourthly, 30 means gratitude. For the past 30 years each member has been a blessing to every person it has touched and helped. It itout a doubt means that each member should be thankful or the given opporunity to serve others by directly afecting people’s lives through the care and maintenance of health. let 30 years signify a renewed zest to this beautiful call with thankful hearts!
Lastly, 30 means it is just 30! It is not yet the end of the count. May the Order of Asclepius continue to foster a well productive year for each member.
