Message from the Chronicler

October 17, 2008

This year’s edition of the Asclepian Voice comes from the heart of every Asclepian. My heartfelt thanks to those who have shared their talents and their time in making this publication possible.
I have been a member of this organization for almost three years now and I must say, being a member as well as an officer is not an easy task. I will be the first one to admit, this organization has a lot of flaws and imperfections. There are times when the members do not get along very well and there are times when we fail to do our duties. Our imperfections have led us to criticisms we humbly accept. We do not even try to defend ourselves because honestly it is very difficult to explain to those who are not part of the order what we do.
We came from different backgrounds but the order respects the essence of maintaining our individuality. We have our own differences but the order does not force unanimity, because the truth is, we do not always agree or conform. What the order only asks is UNITY amongst us.
The order offered us seven precious gifts the moment we are accepted. Everyday we are trying to live up to these tenets and be true to what we have sworn. Though at times it is hard, we remind ourselves that these tenets are there to guide us not only in our journey as medical students but also in life.
To the batch 32, although we do not act as if we are instant best friends, we know deep within us that we have that kind of relationship neither I nor you can find even with our oldest friends or relatives. We share something that cement our relationship and build our character. A genuine friendship we will forever be grateful for.
Lastly, we have a responsibility of protecting the name of the order. May we always strive hard to be the asclepians our mentors wanted us to be.

“Once an Asclepian, always an Asclepian”
